PROJECT PILOTS
There are two project locations for this research Chennai (India) and Rotterdam (The Netherlands). Both Rotterdam and Chennai, are coastal cities with complex water systems, face similar water-related disaster threats. Due to their low-lying positions, they are vulnerable to flooding from sea-level rise and intense rainfall. Both cities are also susceptible to storm surges, resulting from tropical storms and cyclones. Climate change exacerbates these threats, leading to heightened disaster risk and forcing both cities to invest in robust flood management infrastructure and policies. Thus, Rotterdam and Chennai, despite their geographical and cultural differences, share the common challenge of navigating water-related disasters and striving for resilience. Furthermore, the project consortium has experience and data in working with these project sites and has made relevant precursors to engage the respective stakeholders from the region into project committee.
